Dueling Seattle coffee empires step into gluten free ring
Dueling Seattle coffee empires step into gluten free ring
May 19th, 2009 by Valerie ChavezAsk your typical coffee loving Seattle resident if they prefer
Starbucks or Tully’s and most will have a clear preference. To an
outside observer, the two Seattle based coffee empires may seem quite
similar, but rest assured that they are not. I will let our future
Seattle Coffee Examiner explore that topic some day. One clear
commonality between the java giants is their recent addition of snack
items for the gluten free consumers of this beautiful city.
Tully’s
now serves wheat and gluten free cookies from WOW Baking Company.
Flavor choices include ginger molasses, chocolate chip, snickerdoodle,
peanut butter, Oregon oatmeal and chocolate brownie. WOW is a Pacific
Northwest baking company and according to their website, their mission
is to create gluten free products that taste as good, if not better,
than those made with wheat flour. Customer feedback is very positive.
Just last week, Starbucks Coffee Company announced
the new Gluten-free Orange Valencia Cake, developed by their internal
team with just seven ingredients (eggs, Valencia orange pulp, almonds,
sugar, orange peel, gluten-free baking powder, and orange oil). Check
out their blog
to read details on the steps they have taken to insure that these
treats are not exposed to any cross contamination during the baking or
packaging process. Customer feedback is also very good.
you to both Tully's and Starbucks for adding these menu items! No
longer will I stand in line staring at the glowing pastry
shelves and wonder sadly when I will be able to order one. Keep them
coming!
