I went this morning with my mom, dad, and brother.  It was such a quick and easy process.

Everyone should do it and have their relatives do it with them....just make sure that your insurance covers it.  You will also need a perscription from your doctor.  You can either have blood drawn and do it that way or you can do cheek swabs.  This genetic test will tell you which marker you have for Celiac or if you have Celiac at all.

Thank you for sharing! Maybe I can drag my folks in to get tested :P

Where did you have it done?

Do you have an HMO or PPO?

    I have a PPO...

1st you have to get a doctor to order the drug work and it has to be a seriology and genetics test and it has to be for celiac sprue

2nd you just go to a blood lab and get your blood drawn.

    3rd wait for results :)

I would like to but I have been gluten free for several months. Would that affect the results? I did have a blood test for celiac before I went gluten free and the results were inconclusive.

The genetic test does not require a gluten-free diet because your genes don't change. The antibody test DOES require a gluten diet.

All first degree relatives of a Celaic patient should be genetically tested. It shows the genetic markers and give you a likelihood risk factor of developing the disease, should a trauma affect you and turn the marker on.

It is useful information, should something happen later in life.

It is a prudent and intelligent decision to have the testing done.

Good points! ... as a trauma did indeed flip the switch for me. I have had a difficult time finding a doctor to give me even a blood test upon request, even after I'd eaten gluten for a long time (a week and a half of misery and bloating). After that, I was so aggravated that I haven't considered any more tests. This sounds interesting, but for now with no insurance on my job, I'll have to wait. Something to keep in mind, though. Thanks for the information =)
