Diabetes and Celiac: Do you feel the connection?

With the results of recent research pointing to a possible link between the mechanisms behind Celiac Disease and Diabetes, do you personally feel the connection? Does anyone suffer from both Diabetes and Celiac? If so we'd love to hear how the different diagnoses went and what you felt like throughout this time.

    My dietitian asked me about this. I haven't noticed the connection...No one in the family as either besides me. She was telling me, she notices that it skips a generation. One with Celiac then the next is a diabetic.

    This very interesting, i'd love to see what the science is behind the skipping of generations - DNA analysis I suspect would help here, any helpers?

    This is interesting.  My father is diabetic and I have celiac.  So, I wonder if it does skip a generation.  Unfortunately, my grandparents are deceased and I am sure no one thought of diagnosing celiac when they were around.  I am trying to get my dad to get tested for celiac, but he says he wouldn't stay away from bread anyway, so it would be a pointless test.  Yes....he is a stubborn redneck!

    I don't have both, but I do watch the carbs, and being cautious. My doctor was really happy with my numbers. I get checked for diabetes every time I go in for a physical. I remind the doctor to check my blood sugar, and he's been very happy with my numbers. I'm not even close to having Diabetes.

    My Dad has Diabetes type 2, self brought on, due to drinking too many sodas. I rarely have sodas, I rather have Green tea or diet Kool-Aid, which I add to my water, and very careful with it as well.

    I am the first celiac in my family (or so that we know of) and before me on my mother's side, almost everyone is a diabetic...my mom, my mom's mom, and my mom's mom's mom too....so I don't know...My dad thinks that the Celiac came from his side of the family...so I am not sure if the diabetes is related.
